11/18/24 “What can the city even do about these hate incidents?”
This is the fourth time these events have happened in Livingston County in the past four months, and national and international media are referring to it all as Howell. People don't make the distinction that Robert Miles was from Cohactah, not Howell, and the most recent march in the Township, not the city. The damage to businesses, reputation, etc. will not respect geographical boundaries. It's allll Howell so the city needs to, at the very least, issue a statement! It has been over a week since the latest white supremacy attack in our community with nothing but silence from local leaders.
Additionally, there is a Community Response Manual recently created by the Michigan Department of Civil Rights’ Alliance Against Hate Crimes Division made specifically for such issues. This manual is a very clear road map, but has not been explored by City officials despite community requests months ago.
These are some of the actionable items we expect from local officials.
