Bill Bolin is the one sexualizing kids, Psychology Today reports

"The sexualization of queer and transgender children has entered library and school boards across the United States. Currently, a group of library board members in Hartland, MI, are attempting to adopt a policy that will force library staff to sequester and label LGBTQIA+ children’s, parenting, and young-adult books with an extreme message. The wording for the label was developed in collaboration with the local sheriff, and includes “Allowing a minor access to this book…may subject you to criminal prosecution.”

The point of the policy becomes clear when examining the wording and proposed book list. Publicly available documents on the library's website identify "homosexual arousal" as “purient,” meaning deviant. Such wording has long been used to justify attacking the LGBTQIA+ community.2 Associating children’s books on LGBTQIA+ topics as sexually inappropriate is a blatant sexualization of these children. . .

In a recent meeting, the Hartland Library board president, one of the architects of the new policy, offered what I consider a grave warning: “This is happening across the nation”. Indeed, similar situations are playing out across the state of Michigan. There is likely no convincing such individuals of the danger posed by their policies. Instead, we must recognize that removing barriers keeping people from expressing their authentic experience is a goal that supports individuals of any gender identity or sexual orientation. We must educate ourselves and our communities of the harm that comes when transphobia and homophobia influence policy that directly impacts our children.
